Okay, so I was in Jane Austen fandom for a while. It is extremely common for people to self-publish their fics and sell them because it’s public domain and totally fine legally. There’s even a handful of extremely niche publishers who handle it.
I never interacted with this woman (because she was mostly on the publishing side and not the posting-on-forums-or-AO3 side where I was) but I knew of her. She was infamous. I’m honestly surprised she’s only saying she’s written 25+ because at one point she was producing 8+ a year. Nobody really understood it. Even if you’re producing crap, it still takes time to get that many words down.
This was back in 2018 or so. I’m shocked she’s not at 250+ by now.
My question is how does this make any money even at volume.
